Ventura County Real Estate Talk

Ventura County Real Estate, Ventura County Leads the Way in Green Waste Recycling

The California Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989, states that each county in the State of

California must divert 50% of its waste away from landfills by the year 2000.  Since then, Ventura County has taken a stand to help improve the California environment in many different ways.

Green Waste Recycling LogoThe process that makes Ventura County noticeably different from other California Counties is our extensive Green Waste Recycling. As one of California’s leading agricultural counties, the green waste recycling program is set up in a way that all of the green waste that Ventura County residents and Ventura County businesses deposit in their yard waste bins is processed and returned to the agricultural soils. Given that much of California’s waste is organic material, this plan helps our county to meet the Integrated Waste Management Act requirements. Meaning the landfills get less packed, our farm lands see the benefit, and something positive is done for theVentura County environment.

Agromin

Our County’s newest and largest green waste recycling facility is operated by Agromin Premium Soil Products . This facility is located on 5 acres owned by Ventura County’s largest farming operation, Limoneira Co.

According to Bill Camarillo, the CEO of Agromin Premium Soil Products in Camarillo, “the recycled green waste infuses organic nutrients into the trees and plants, reducing the need for pesticides or herbicides. The recycled soil products also reduce the need for water and prevent soil erosion.”

Now that you know how beneficial green waste recycling can be to our county’s farmlands, it is important you know what you should put in your yard waste bins.

Mr. Camarillo states that your green waste recycling trash should be limited to grass cuttings, leaves, small branches, weeds, shrubs, cut flowers, house plants, recyclable flower containers and plant material.
